Wondering what a Chautauqua is? Essentially, it’s an old-style variety show. This new-fangled version presented by Puppets Up! will take place on Saturday, November 15, with matinée and evening performances at the Almonte Old Town Hall.
The line-up of primarily local acts is diverse, energized (and energi-Zing) and, most important, full of fun: singers (a barbershop quartet, a couple of soloists and a small choir), highland dancers, stand-up comedy, a local poet reciting one of her favourite poems by a famous Canadian, and, not surprisingly, a couple of outstanding puppeteers.
The show is gender balanced and the performers are age diverse – an equal number of females and males ranging in age from 19 to 69. All of them are wonderfully talented.
Hosts-with-the-mosts Jon and Patti Lockhart will keep things moving along hilariously (with a little help from a few special latex guests), and audiences will be treated to sponsor “jingles” in three-part harmony.
Besides being fun-filled, the event is a fundraiser; all proceeds will go to supporting the next Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival taking place on August 8 and 9, 2026.
